Place the cranberries, white sugar, and water into a large pot. Zest the orange into strips and add to the pot. Cut the zested orange in half and juice using a glass citrus juicer. Add the juice to the pot along with any orange pulp scraped off of the rind. Be sure to discard any seeds which you encounter.
Simmer the mixture on the stove at medium heat, stirring every 5 minutes or so. Cook until water is reduced and mixture thickens slightly. This may take about 30 minutes. As it cools, the cranberry sauce will continue to thicken up.
Spoon into a covered container and place in the fridge until needed.
